Crafting is the practice of making magical items. Unlike Inscriptions, magic items are lasting.
To craft an item you must always begin with a unique base of some kind; it's not sufficient to simply smelt large amounts of magical iron to make a magic hammer. For example, rumour has it that Mjolnir was crafted from magical iron alloyed with the heart of a fallen star, still shining as it was excavated. Though not every magic item needs to be made from something so grandiose as that, it must begin from something special.
To craft an item you must:
- Begin with the unique material(s)
- Add additional basic materials of your choice.
- Optionally cast a rune of Creation.
- Optionally add essence of your own material to the creation. This will cause at least one wound.
- State your intention for what you wish the magic item to do. A proud crafter will often address the room about their undertaking, though it can be whispered to the aether if desired.
- Spend some time crafting the item.
While you make the item the refs will write you a card for it.
Each godling can only attune to one magic item at a time.
It is possible to use multiple unique base items if you wish to make a single more powerful creation. It's known that there are diminishing returns on adding basic materials, limited by the power of the unique base you use.
Guidance and assistance can be sought from the Alfar and Svartalfar. The Alfar are known for their skill crafting with Nature, Stone and Ice. The Svartalfar are known for their skill with Darkness, Iron and Flame.
