FAQ

From Norse Angels

I have something I want to do, and really need to talk to "X" about it

You can submit messages for the Ravens to take, but they will need cake. You can also leave a message for Ratatoskr to take, which he will do for free. If you send a message via Ratatoskr it will usually get there, but there's no guarantee of how long until, or whether, you get a response. If you submit a message via the Ravens, using cake, you are guaranteed a response, at the latest early in the next interactive.

Does the god who made you limit what you're made of?

No. In-universe the creation of godlings isn't an exact science and the gods had to make do with what they could make work. Out-of-universe it's intended design that your god and material can differ, and it's a good way to justify a contradictory character. Like a godling of Idun wanting to be peaceful, but they were made with Fire or Iron so they keep going off on one.

I'm pretty sure someone is a lokiling! What can I do about them?

Odin and Freyja have the power to eject godlings from the meetings, provided you can convince them. Creating a godling is a very difficult task though, so the standard of proof will be high, and Odin and Freyja will likely insist on at least some chance for them to reform before consenting to an execution.

Do the real Norse myths about Ragnarok exist in universe?

Yes, but no one's sure how reliable they are. Even Seidr isn't written in stone. A major reason you were created is to change those prophecies.

What everyone's sure of though is the original prophecy of Mimir. The Doomsaying of a god is a powerful thing. Ragnarok will happen, a time when gods can die.

How does Runecasting work out of combat?

The same way it does in combat, though many considerations aren't so important when time and mobility aren't constrained. You say the name of the rune and perform the action appropriate to your material - either touch, strike or indicate the target.

I just got told Would You Kindly Feel Fear, but I'm very brave! It wouldn't be in character for me to be afraid!

Unfortunately the call Would You Kindly indicates a supernatural effect, so a similarly supernatural effect is needed to resist it, such casting a rune of resistance. You can decide exactly how you respond to roleplaying effects, but you must roleplay a reaction to them, you can't just push through on willpower alone.

If I'm told Would You Kindly do something, can I use abilities on myself to negate it?

If it's an ability that prevents it taking effect in the first place, such as a rune of RESIST, yes. If you're under the effect of, for example, "Would You Kindly attack your allies", using an ability like FREEZE or "Would You Kindly Calm Down" on yourself is not legitimate because that isn't doing your best to obey the command.

What do I do if I'm affected by FREEZE and then take REPEL or BASH, or vice versa?

The most recent call takes precedence, so if you're frozen and made to move, you move. If you're being made to move and are frozen, you'd freeze.

If affected by FREEZE and you take BASH you take 3 paces away from the caller and then freeze again until the freeze effect ends.

I see this is a viking age setting. Can I play a sexist character in it?

Does print exist in the setting?
