From Norse Angels
Week 1
After the first meeting in Odin's Hall, the big news is that the first mission of the godlings happened, to Valhalla in Asgard to train with the Einherjar. Things didn’t go as smoothly as planned, as some Jotun crashed the training session. They claimed to be mercenaries working for a godling, who proved to be a lokiling trying to spread propaganda among the Einherjar about Ragnarok. The valiant godlings swiftly chased the lokiling off.
They then went to Midgard to investigate rumours of more lokiling interference there. They indeed found a lokiling on Midgard trying to convert Midgardians to Loki worship. This one they dispatched and killed, then returned to Asgard.
In other news, Jotunheim is reportedly in a state of strife of sorts due to several issues. Utgard Utgardson is said to be having trouble keeping the Jotun in line, the appearance of Jotun in Valhalla has caused some concern, and to add fuel to the fire rumours whisper that some godlings have been raiding Jotunheim collecting gruesome trophies.
Freyja has extended an invitation to the godlings to attend at her Hall in Vanaheim to discuss upcoming expeditions - one to Jotunheim to address the diplomatic issues there, and a dangerous expedition to Niflheim to gather resources for the godlings’ future endeavours.
Week 2
After a diplomatic mission by the godlings to Jotunheim to a lengthy moot interrupted by an assassination, Skadi is now on the throne of Jotunheim, with Thrym as her oathsworn champion and general. Utgard, ever the pragmatist, has graciously stepped down into the shadows, and Jotunheim is now reasonably united.
In other news the godlings went into Niflheim on an expedition to gather resources and maybe see Fenrir. Unfortunately Fenrir was out of reach, but reputedly many resources were found after much epic struggle.
With both Jotunheim and Midgard seemingly stable, things seem to be quiet for now. Maybe too quiet.
For the next meeting Frig has invited the godlings to Fensalir in Asgard to take advantage of the pause to regroup and plan.
Week 3
It was a quiet week until all Muspelheim broke loose among the Alfar. Reports are that after some sort of internal conflict the realm of Alfheim has had a radical shift in policy towards xenophobia. The godlings have been invited clandestinely to the realm to investigate.
Meanwhile in unrelated news, preparations are going ahead for a dangerous expedition to the deep oceans of Midgard.
Finally, Hel has invited the godlings to her domain for the next meeting. You can probably leave again…
Week 4
News around Asgard is that the godlings' Operation Snake to the floor of Midgard’s oceans was successful and that a scale of Jormungandr was indeed retrieved.
The situation in Alfheim has neither improved nor deteriorated. The godlings made contact with some sympathisers but rumour has it things didn’t go entirely as planned in a few ways. Operation Sword did not yield a sword, there are two disunited anti-government groups in Alfheim, one of which is sympathetic to the godlings and the other not so much, and apparently a godling was seen snooping around the Lady of Light’s chambers, tanking the godlings’ official standing.
Idun has invited the godlings to her orchard for the next meeting. With no missions to the Realms planned it should be a quiet week.
Week 5
News from Alfheim is that a dissident leader named “Calarel” has been imprisoned. Seemingly, far from sinking their group, a new highly charismatic leader has arisen to lead their faction and is making waves, wielding a very impressive looking sword. Meanwhile little has changed at the top, but reports are that things might be a bit better.
An expedition is planned to Alfheim this week to try to resolve the situation there, and Ingvi has invited the godlings to his villa to prepare.
Meanwhile there are rumours of a high value target in Muspelheim warranting an expedition, but details are being kept tightly under wraps for the moment.
The harvests in Midgard are much improved, with no signs of further sabotage.
There’s consternation among the gods about some of their apples being stolen, and also that gods have started falling asleep. Mani, Magni and Modi have now begun their sleep for Fimbulwinter.
Week 6
Two big bits of news this week. The first is that during the week there’s a bright flash in the sky and a piercing scream is heard across the Realms, and then is suddenly silenced. Suspectedly related is that inscribers sense that something has changed about the rune Sowilo, though it’s not entirely clear what yet.
The second is that things have changed significantly in Alfheim. The Lady of Light has been deposed and exiled and a member of the revolutionaries called Hellkerin is de facto in charge. Reportedly Ingvi’s Sword of Summer was recovered by the godlings and is in one of their possession.
Lesser news is that ash storms in Muspelheim meant the expedition there this week wasn’t able to go ahead, but hopefully will clear soon and another attempt can be made.
Mimir has invited the godlings to the Well of Mimir in Jotunheim for the next meeting.
Week 7
The big news is that Sol is confirmed dead, and her rune Sowilo is in the possession of Skoll the (now) Demon Wolf God. This has caused consternation among the gods, just as many of them are beginning to sleep for Fimbulwinter. Skoll has begun consuming the Sun, and it is slowly darkening as Skoll becomes brighter.
The ash storms in Muspelheim have subsided and the planned expedition to assault a fortress of Loki there can now go ahead this weekend.
In brighter news, the new embassy of Tíuᚦing is nearing completion, but rumour has it Loki is planning to make a move on it before it can finish embedding in to Yggdrasil at the end of the week. Related, the realms of Alfheim and Svartalfheim have signed a treaty allying them against threats posed by Ragnarok.
Skadi has invited the godlings to her Hall in Jotunheim for the next meeting.
Week 8.1 / End of Term 1
Several big pieces of news this week. The first is that the remaining loyalist gods have now slept for Fimbulwinter - Sigyn, Loki and Heimdall remain awake, but that’s all.
There were two expeditions of the godlings, both successful. The first was to Muspelheim to assault a stronghold being used by lokilings, which was destroyed and all of the lokilings killed, and the Fire Giant guardian dispatched.
The second expedition repelled an attack on Tíuᚦing by Loki, who was attempting to corrupt its essence while it was still malleable before becoming a full Realm. His attempts failed, and so the second big piece of news is that Tíuᚦing is now the Tenth Realm, of Rebirth and New Beginnings.
The third big news is that Skoll the Demon Wolf God is now just Skoll the Demon Wolf again, Sowilo having passed to Süna Solsdottir, new nascent god of the Sun. Skoll has ceased consuming the Sun and can now be seen apparently just lounging in the sky, happily chewing on something.
With Sigyn’s distinct non-sleepiness, she’s come clean as being on Loki’s side, but that she wishes to act as a mediator between the loyalists and the more intransigently destructive of Loki’s followers, and welcomes people to talk to her on behalf of Loki. Some doubt how much influence she really has over her husband, however.
News from Helheim is that some odd behaviour is spreading like a plague among the shades. They’re now all acting like they’re related, but there also seem to have been some side effects on their behaviour. In Midgard there seems to have been an minor exodus of sorts to the new realm Tíuᚦing, led by one Magnussen. Meanwhile those remaining behind are reporting odd dreams, of a poem:
Rise to resistance, Loki’s lies shattered, Meet the gods’ message, the raven’s raw cry, Stride forth with Sigrun, Girded as general, Fire-forged speartips are battleward bound. Call out with the courage of Valhalla’s virtues , Fight for your family, hold onto your home. Stand strong as stone, war’s waves crashing and breaking, Take from the traitors their hoards and their hearth. So stumble from sleep into this Midgard morning, Awake and aware, with your fate found and clear. Rise against Ragnarok, live as a legend, Valhalla or victory, but better, seek both!
Inspired, many are flocking to the banner of Sigrun, who wishes to unite Midgard into a nation that will follow the gods to victory in Ragnarok.
Week 8.2 / Start of Term 2
Rumour has it there's been a shakeup of some sort among Loki's followers, but details are scarce. Loki and Sigyn have invited the godlings to a meeting in a secret location in Muspelheim to talk about recent events. With the rest of the gods slumbering Heimdall is a bit busy to host this week, so with nowhere else to be most godlings seem to have decided to attend, with varying levels of enthusiasm.
Week 9
The news from Svartalfheim is that the godlings successfully lent a hand defeating a large part of Surtr’s forces in the Realm, leaving the Realm far safer, for now, although the situation is not fully resolved.
Several pieces of news happened in the godling meeting this week too. A very angry fire giant made public the fact that Loki and Surtr have officially split their forces for the coming of Ragnarok, since Loki loves his wife so much that he won’t help destroy absolutely everything. Less comfortingly, Surtr does not agree. On top of that, Fenrir and Jormungandr appear to be getting… more active. Closer to breaking their bonds.
The meeting this week is going to be hosted by Heimdall. Since Heimdall is now dead and Finn is the new owner of the rune Algiz, Heimdall will have to host in Helheim.
Week 10
The news that hits closest to home is the first death of a godling not made by Loki. Finn, godling of Hod and favoured of Hel was killed in broad daylight by Skadi to take the rune Algiz. Skadi is now the goddess of Vigilance, Protection, Power and Ambition.
As part of her agreement with the remaining godlings, Skadi has marched a sizable force of Jotun into Svartalfheim, reinforcing their beleaguered forces and securing the Realm from attack from Muspelheim and Niflheim for the time being.
As a result of Skadi now owning Algiz, Heimdall reports to any godlings who’ll listen that he’s in a bit of a bind. Without it, he’s lost his ability to see Ragnarok coming, and blow Gjallarhorn to wake the rest of the gods. Reputedly some godlings have a plan to rectify this to do with the Well of Mimir, but details aren’t common knowledge.
Monsters of the world are on the move. Nidhogg has arisen from the Well of Hvergelmir and is roaming the wastes, terrorising other Niflheimers into attacking the other Realms. Meanwhile Fenrir is gnawing through the last links of his chain. Possibly most interesting, is that a lizard creature claiming to represent Jormungandr has been travelling the Realms telling anyone who’ll listen that the Well of Mimir has been given to Jormungandr, and that he will move there upon gaining his freedom from the depths of Midgard’s oceans.
The godlings have been invited to Midgard for the next week, to be hosted by the mortal leader Sigrun.
Week 11
The biggest news is from Vidar’s domain. His guards report that he convulsed and screamed in his sleep, and then died. The rune Ehwaz is now in the possession of the godling Fulke. Inscribers report that the resonances of Ehwaz have changed to Vengeance, Hunting, Duty and Sacrifice.
Thor is also sleeping fitfully and seems to have been suffering from recurring nightmares.
An Ulvar prowls around the Ten Realms, seeking out godlings specifically, and informing them of a new alliance between Fenrir and Tyr to kill Odin.
Alfar crafters arrive in Svartalfheim and begin helping with the rebuilding efforts after the Muspelheim attack several weeks ago. The Jotun mock their late arrival, and the Svartalfar don’t seem thrilled at their arrival time either, but are grateful that they're now here.
Late in the week comes news from Vanaheim that Freyja has gone missing from her resting place, and her current whereabouts are unknown.
The next meeting is in Vanaheim in the domain formerly occupied by Freyja. The Vanir have volunteered their new Folksjarl Rannikko as the host.
Week 12
The big news is that yet another god has died. It seems the forces of Surtr somehow gained access to the abode of Dagur and dispatched him. Dagaz, rune of Daytime, Hatred, Anger and Incineration, is now in the hands of Surtr.
Heimdall reports that the Eye of Odin is settling in nicely and he has almost the same vision as he had when God of Vigilance. Seeing Ragnarok and blowing Gjallarhorn should be no problem.
Fenrir and Jormungandr are both free! With a great howl the Alpha of Alphas breaks his chains and bounds off to hunting grounds unknown. Jormungandr is less mysterious; he makes good on his word and slithers out of the oceans of Midgard, into Jotunheim and towards the Well of Mimir, the Jotun giving him a wide berth. In better news, Hati the demon wolf who chases the moon has stopped in the sky and can be seen contentedly chewing on something.
Safe places are getting a little scarce, so Heimdall suggests the godlings head to Tiuthing to prepare for their next expedition, whatever it might be.
Week 13
Obviously the biggest news is that Gjallarhorn has been blown. Ragnarok has arrived!
The armies of Muspelheim have marched and the beasts of Niflheim have swarmed from the wastes. Helheim underwent quakes before its very existence shattered and the dead were released into the world.
The first major battles have been fought, as godlings snuck through the lines to confront Surtr and Nidhogg at the heart of their armies. Surtr lies decapitated and the rune of Dagaz is now in the hands of Rannikko of Vanaheim, with the resonances of Daytime, Energy, Vitality and Striving. Nidhogg was beaten but not defeated, and is reputedly rebuilding his strength in the Well of Hvergelmir in preparation for another assault. Somehow early in the struggle Vali was slain, and his rune Eihaz is now in the hands of the godling known as “Big” Jarn with no change in resonances.
With the leaders of Muspelheim and Niflheim dealt with for now, there’s a lull in the action. Midgard, Aflheim, Svartalfheim and Jotunheim’s battles are yet to be decided. Meanwhile Asgard is in turmoil as Odin and Tyr wage a war for the hearts and minds of the Aesir and the Einherjar before facing each other; Tyr’s ally Fenrir is yet to be seen.
Vanaheim’s defences have repelled the main attack on the Realm, and seem relatively secure. In a major upheaval Freyja has been ousted as leader of the Realm, to be formally replaced by Folksjarl Rannikko speaking of a new “democratic” republic.
Tiuthing remains one of the few strongholds amidst the chaos, and so the godlings are meeting there again this week to strategise.
Week 14
Considering there’s an apocalypse on, it’s a surprisingly pedestrian news cycle this week. Probably the biggest news is that the majority of Einherjar seem to have recused themselves in the conflict between Odin and Tyr in Asgard and are putting their energies into defending Asgard’s borders. Meanwhile Odin is reported to be having some sort of personal problems that he’s keeping under wraps.
Speaking of news cycles, that’s a term that’s recently been coined, by the new Vanaheim News Network, who have done various interviews this week.
As the godlings prepare for another meeting in Tiuthing there’s a metaphorical buzzing in the air, like the calm before a storm. Ragnarok is about to conclude.
Week 15
Ragnarok is over, and the fighting has subsided. Celebrations are held in many realms, while in others the feeling is bittersweet. Previously the alliance on top of the world, Asgard’s leadership is smashed and Vanaheim seeks a new place in the world under a radically different regime. Meanwhile Jotunheim and Midgard celebrate as new rising powers, and the elven realms stand united (but for how long before the old cracks resurface?). Tiuthing stands untouched by Ragnarok, but is still a small oasis among the more established Realms. Most drastically, once the fog of war clears it’s revealed that the realms of Helheim and Muspelheim are completely destroyed. Finally, the monsters of Niflheim return to their icy wastes, for now.
Odin, Tyr, Loki, Heimdall, Thor and Bragi are all dead, gone permanently from the domain of Yggdrasil. In their place “Little” Jarn, Fulke, Stigr, Sif and Leikn the new fire giant leader hold their runes.
This week the godlings come full circle and will meet in the hall formerly owned by Odin, to begin the work of rebuilding.
Week 16
Probably the biggest news is that a change that was first seen in Alfheim has now been seen in other places. Plants seem to be becoming slightly more poisonous than before. This doesn’t seem to be a problem for the ecosystem as a whole though - they’re as healthy as ever.
The other big news is the absence of a news story. Everyone was waiting with baited breath for where the displaced Fire Giants were going to turn up and cause trouble, but surprisingly, things are quiet on that front.
Otherwise the Realms teem with smaller news. Tiuthing is debating a selection of a new Jarl of some sort. There are rumblings of some sort of power struggle brewing in Jotunheim. The Vanaheim News Network produce a special edition news cry about Ragnarok that attracts a lot of listeners.
Skadi has invited the godlings to Jotunheim for the next meeting.
