During the week, between meetings and missions you have a fair bit of downtime, which you can choose to spend in one of two ways: Training with your god and helping them with their agenda or go Adventuring in the realms.
Training
The default option for downtime is to spend time with your god and get a reward from them. This is a safe option as there's no risk of things going wrong and will give you materials with which to progress your agenda as you like. You'll receive an extra material of the type of your god along with your regular income. You don't need to tell us you're taking this option, just let us know when you get your income at the interactive.
With Fimbulwinter approaching, the gods are due to sleep soon. When that happens, with your New Found Freedom you'd be free to figure out your own default...
Adventuring
Instead of staying home with your god you can instead choose to head out into the Nine Realms for some Adventuring. This is a lot more freeform as if you can think of something, you can (at minimum) attempt to do it. To go adventuring, pick which Realm you are going to and what you want to do there, then tell the Refs via email or your discord channel. Your Animal Familiar can help you when doing certain activities while Adventuring based on their Downtime ability, making risky things less likely to go bad or safer things even better.
Be warned however, if you try and do something too risky during Adventuring then it can go wrong.
Example Adventures could include:
- Going to Alfheim to beat up some snobby Alfar that annoyed you now that they've left the protection of Idun's peace spell (The Gorilla Warfare familiar ability would help here)
- Going to Svartalfheim to steal some crafting-related goodies from the Svartalfar. (The Familiar on the Wall familiar ability would help here)
- Going to Jotunheim to try get some of the Jotun on-side, whichever side it is that you're on (The Can't Say No familiar ability would help here)
Adventuring in downtime is intended to be an optional extra to the game; the primary means by which you accomplish your goals is by uptime exploits. Downtime can be used to set up a meeting, influence the opinion of a person or faction, obtain information about a topic, follow up on an encounter with something that cannot be physrepped in uptime, or something with a similar level of impact. You can sway plotlines, including influencing future uptime encounters, but plot resolutions are kept to uptime.
Given that, these are things that are unlikely to work:
- Attempting to gain a crafting base. Crafting bases are intentionally scarce, so that deciding what they're made into is a meaningful decision. The only exceptions would be items with only very specific uses; we suggest checking with a Norn before trying to gain one.
- Having very interactive conversations with NPCs. This is simply for practical reasons - we don't want to put words in your mouth, so chances are you'll get mostly the NPC's side of any conversation.
- Entirely resolving plots. Other players should have the chance to interact with the resolution of shared plots, and conflicts to play out, which is not possible in downtime. You can affect plots with downtime actions but trying to fully resolve them is unlikely to work.
- The exception is resolutions that can only be done during downtime. We suggest you speak to a Norn before trying this. It’s likely that you’ll be required to speak about or announce your intentions to other players so that they have the opportunity to interact with or challenge your proposal.
Income
Godlings have a tendency to just come across examples of the material with which they are infused. Each week you'll gain a basic resource of the same type as your material.
In addition, you will receive one other random income each week. This will usually be a random basic resource, but based on what you chose to do with your Downtime, you may also be offered to instead receive a different income, such as a rumour, an unusual item or a dubiously acquired item. You can always decline and instead take a random basic resource.
