The Aesir

Frig

Rune: Othala ᛟ

(Ex-?) Queen of Asgard and widow of Odin. Mother of Balder and the one who made him (almost) immortal.

Balder

Rune: Wunjō ᚹ

Odin's Golden Child. His mother Frig made everything swear an oath never to hurt him. Except mistletoe. Died when Loki tricked Hod into shooting him with a mistletoe arrow, which resulted in Loki's imprisonment. Last seen in a tent waiting out the destruction of Ragnarök and the collapse of Helheim with his now girlfriend(?) Hel.

Hod

Rune: Mannaz ᛗ

Son of Odin and Brother of Balder. Blind. Was tricked by Loki into killing Balder with a mistletoe arrow and was killed by Vali (Odin's son) in vengeance. Kind of just a guy. Alive again.

Sif

Runes: Berkanan ᛒ and Thurisaz ᚦ

Has long, golden hair that Loki once cut off. She never forgave him. Neither did Thor. Thor's wife and mother of Magni and Modi as well as Thrud. Took Thurisaz after Thor's death.

Thor

Former General of the Aesir and chief skull cracker. A brawler and a drinker. Used to drink with Loki (mostly because Odin made him). Keen to get stuck in to any fight and likes simple, bold (some (Tyr) might say reckless) plans. Son of Odin. Married to Sif and father of Magni and Modi as well as Thrud, his daughter who is training to become a Valkyrie. Had a long running feud with Jormungandr. Killed by the monsters of Niflheim during Ragnarok after being weakened by months of terrible nightmares by Loki.

Jormungandr

(Formerly) The Midgard Serpent. Slept coiled around Midgard, eating his own tail. Son of Loki and Angrboda. Brother of Fenrir and Hel. Has a long running feud with Thor.

Was freed during Ragnarok and as part of a deal, instead of poisoning Midgard, headed to the Well of Mimir to take possession of it.

Magni and Modi

Rune: Ūruz ᚢ

Thor's kids. Forced to share a Rune because Odin ran out. Magni is more about physical strength while Modi is more about mental strength/courage. Now patrons of Midgard's warriors.

Mimir

Rune: Perthaz ᛈ

Killed during the Aesir-Vanir war. His head was animated by Odin and placed in the Well of Mimir where Mimir gained forbidden knowledge. Unfortunately he can't share that knowledge unless something is sacrificed for it. He also couldn't leave the Well, until the godlings made him a statue body and put his head on it. (Still) Perpetually grumpy. Currently drunk in a hole.

The Vanir

Freyja

Rune: Fehu ᚠ

Sort-of (possibly ex-) leader of the Vanir and co-leader of the Loyalist gods dedicated to fighting Loki/Ragnarök. Former ruler of Vanaheim before being ousted by Rannikko. Magic. Previously owned many cats. Daughter of Njord. Sister of Ingvi.

Not to be confused with Frig (OC Note: Some versions of Norse Mythology have them as the same person. For the purposes of Norse Angels, they are not)

Ingvi

Rune: Ingwaz ᛜ

Brother of Freyja. Prefers to solve problems through words and diplomacy but understands that sometimes you just need to hit someone with a sword. Managed to negotiate a peace treaty between the Alfar and the Svartalfar for a brief period but it quickly fell apart without constant oversight.

Njord

Rune: Laguz ᛚ

Father of Freyja and Ingvi. Estranged husband of Skadi. Previously led the Vanir but handed that off to his daughter and is now essentially the god-equivalent of retired. Likes fishing.

Idun

Rune: Jēra ᛃ

Pacifist. Protects the apples of immortality that give the gods eternal life. Maintains a peace spell over the godling meetings to prevent violence and harm. Widow of Bragi of the Aesir.

Mani

Rune: Raidō ᚱ

The moon. Brother of Sol. Previously was chased through the sky by Hati, Fenrir's son.

The Others

Sigyn

Rune: Isaz ᛁ

Loki's wife. Stayed with Loki when he was imprisoned and caught most of the serpent's venom with her mixing bowls. Got left behind when Loki escaped and baked cakes for the Loyalists. Group mum. Eventually revealed herself to still be helping Loki.

Hel

Rune: Naudiz ᚾ

Ex-queen of Helheim and ruler of the unworthy dead. Claims to support the Loyalist cause but isn't generally trusted because she's Loki's daughter. Sister of Fenrir and Jormungandr. Got a Rune off Odin by letting him give one to Balder. Currently in a tent waiting out Ragnarök with her now boyfriend(?) Balder.

Kvasir

Rune: Gebō ᚷ

Born when the Aesir and Vanir spat into a cauldron to seal their peace treaty. Got killed(?) and turned into mead by the Svartalfar, but being given a Rune gave him a new body. Bleeds mead. Really good at Flyting, almost as good as Loki.

The Ascended

Süna

Rune: Sōwilō ᛊ

A godling who successfully gained Sowilo from the sun god Sol.

Skoll

The Demon Wolf who used to chase the Sun across the sky. Recently caught and killed Sol, consuming the rune Sowilo and briefly becoming a god, before relinquishing Sowilo to Süna. Süna's not-quite second Familiar.

Sol

The sun. Sister of Mani. Chased through the sky by Skoll, Fenrir's son. Has a daughter.

Temporarily deceased, attacked and killed by Skoll. Sowilo passed through the possession of Skoll and is now owned by Süna Solsdottir. Now resurrected via TiuÞing and co-hosting the Vanaheim News Network.

Skadi

Rune: Algiz ᛉ

A Jotun who really hates Loki. Was the one to put the venomous serpent above Loki when he was in captivity. Tried to marry Balder but got tricked into marrying Njord instead which went... surprisingly well, although they are estranged now. Became High Jarl of Jotunheim early in the year. Later, took Algiz from Finn and is now the goddess of Vigilance, as well as High Jarl of the Jotun.

Finn

A godling of Hod who obtained Algiz from it's previous owner Heimdall, but was killed by Skadi for ownership of Algiz.

Heimdall

The watcher. General of the Aesir. Can observe all Nine Realms (although Loki's always been good at hiding). The only Loyalist who won't fall asleep for Fimbulwinter. Owner of Gjallarhorn, which he will blow to signal the start of Ragnarok. Spent some time as a shade in Helheim having given Algiz to the godling Finn, before being permanently killed by Loki during Ragnarok and consigned to oblivion.

Fulke

Runes: Ehwaz ᛖ and Tîwaz ᛏ

A godling of Vidar who slew them and took Ehwaz. Was later given Tiwaz by the dying Tyr.

Vidar

Favourite son of Odin (after Balder who's dead). Good with horses and bows. Liked hunting. And vengeance, a trait he shared with his brother Vali. Killed by Fulke. Now part of the Ehwaz Cult's hivemind.

Tyr

General of the Aesir and their chief tactician. Wise, honourable and smart. Fond of actually planning things and always keeps his word. Son of the Jotun Hymir. Helped raised Fenrir as a puppy and then let Fenrir eat his hand as part of the plan to imprison the wolf.

Rebelled against Odin due to his treatment of... everyone, and fought Odin with Fenrir. Was killed by Odin before Odin was killed in turn, becoming consigned to oblivion.

Fenrir

Also known as the Fenris Wolf. Previously imprisoned in Niflheim by the Loyalists. Son of Loki and Angrboda. Brother of Hel and Jormungandr. Father of Skoll and Hati, who chase Sol and Mani (respectively) through the sky, trying to eat them. Conspired with Tyr to kill and eat Odin, which he did.

"Big" Jarn

Rune: Ēihaz ᛇ

Godling of Hel who killed Vali and took Eihaz.

Vali

Son of Odin; not to be confused with Vali, son of Loki. Born specifically for the purpose of avenging Balder by killing Hod and Loki's children Narfi and Vali (yes they have the same name, no they are not the same person). Bound Loki to the rock. His ties to vengeance means he gets on well with Vidar. Also, the god of flying. Killed by "Big" Jarn, who took his Rune. Reduced to nothing due to the nature of his death.

Rannikko

Rune: Dagaz ᛞ

First Folksjarl of Vanaheim and godling of Freyja, who took Dagaz from Surtr upon the giant's death.

Surtr

King of the Fire Giants and ruler of Muspelheim. A being bent on nothing short of the destruction of everything. Killed Dagur as an early start to Ragnarok and took his Rune, in turn slain near the start of Ragnarok and the Rune was then taken by Rannikko, becoming consigned to oblivion.

Dagur

Ex-god of the daytime. Was previously a rather chill guy, but when he heard Loki escaped he snapped and got a bit... deranged. Recently killed by Surtr. Now alive again, but bereft of a Rune.

Leikn

Rune: Kenaz ᚲ

Current ruler of the Fire Giants, cunning and tricksy for a being of Flame. His forces slew Bragi and claimed Kenaz for Leikn.

Bragi

Not much of a fighter which is a rarity among the Aesir. Makes music. And weapons. Son of Odin and married to Idun of the Vanir. Killed during Ragnarök and had his Rune looted by the forces of Muspelheim. Consigned to oblivion due to dying during Ragnarok.

Stigr

Rune: Hagalaz ᚺ

Godling of Mimir, who slew Loki and took Hagalaz during Ragnarok.

Loki

The Trickster. Leader of the other side. Dedicated to bringing about Ragnarok and the end of (ideally) everything (or at minimum the gods). Previously bound to a rock with a giant snake hanging above him dripping poison into his face. Escaped and then stole the Rune Hagalaz to make his Lokilings. Blood brother of Odin. Married to Sigyn. Father of Fenrir, Hel and Jormungandr by Angrboda, the Hag of the Ironwood. Father of Narfi and Vali (not to be confused with Odin's son Vali) (both previously dead). Mother of Sleipnir (don't ask). Killed by Stigr during Ragnarök and consigned to oblivion.

"Little" Jarn

Rune: Ansuz ᚨ

A former Einherjar ascended to godling, who took Ansuz from Odin after he was slain by Fenrir.

Odin

Former Allfather and leader of the Aesir and co-leader of the Loyalist gods dedicated to fighting Loki/Ragnarok. Gave his eye to the well of Mimir to originally receive the secret of Runes and gave them to the other gods after Loki stole Hagalaz. Blood brother of Loki. Married to Frig and father of Thor, Balder, Hod, Bragi, Vidar and Vali (not to be confused with Loki's son Vali). Had an eight-legged horse called Sleipnir (one of Loki's kids, don't question it). Slain by Fenrir, with Tyr's help and consigned to oblivion as the last major death of Ragnarök.
